YEAR: 2018

COMPANY: VELUX A/S

Opportunity

A new division, called VELUX Commercial, was created under the VELUX Brand. This division is specialized in delivering daylight solutions for commercial buildings, such as offices, schools, and retail stores.

The first step in the commercial market was with VELUX Modular Skylights and during 2018, the VELUX Group acquired 3 skylight companies, thus expanding the company´s product portfolio.

Therefore, there was a need to create a new website, with a new brand identity that could present the product portfolio and its potentialities in an easy and comprehensive way.

User research

PREVIOUS RESEARCH

The first step was to dive deeper into the main target groups, architects and contractors. I looked at the previous research carried out to uncover their drivers, needs, and preferences.

HEURISTIC EVALUATION & USER TESTING

In order to establish a baseline, the next step was to evaluate the site including the existing pages related to VELUX Modular Skylights, one of the solutions offered by VELUX Commercial.

Therefore, I conducted a Heuristic Evaluation of the site, following Nielsen´s heuristics. By doing that, I could highlight what was working and what wasn´t and provide recommendations on how to improve the pages.

A user testing was then carried out to assess whether users could identify  the same strengths and flaws on the pages.

Based on the insights gathered from user research, the team highlighted the core content for the new website. We then started by building the information architecture of the site and the main navigation (mega menu, mobile menu, and breadcrumbs) and then we moved to sketch and designing the main pages of the website.

USER TESTING

I created a clickable prototype and we tested navigation and main pages of the site both on desktop and mobile with a group of architects and contractors.

We then iterated both navigation and wireframes of the pages based on the user insights.

Afterward, we created the specifications for the development team, so that they could start implementing the new website.
